Jessica and Stephen give up smoking

kunoichi
Tomorrow.

We've got the patches and the inhalers and the lozenges.

Lots of sugar-free gum.

We saw the pharmacist today and we have another appointment in a week's time.

Help!

Congratulations! It only takes 2 or 3 days to break the addiction - from then on what seems to be 'cravings' (horrid word!) is only habit. I find eating lots of fruit'n'veg helps: the vitamins boost the system and clear out the crud (and taste good, too.) Also, going to new places that don't have the association with fags, and silly little things like having your cuppa in a place where you've never smoked, like the bedroom (or loo...)

(The reason I know all this is because I've been giving up fags for years: but with both of you doing this, you are sure to be more successful than me.)

Dreadful Confession Time: When I gave up last time, I found myself sucking my thumb, my terrible childhood habit.

Positive thoughts are winging your way from this corner of Herts.

This is all very welcome, Maggie. I was a thumb-sucker too and only stopped relatively late. I have seriously wondered about investing in a dummy LOL.

At the moment, weirdly, we seem to have lost our appetites. My big fear (apart from starting again) is putting on weight - which I desperately need to lose!

Best of luck to you both! My hubby should quit ... Dr said there is this great new pill that turns the taste of nicotine off, he said results have been great! Article below

Thanks for the link, Lolly. At the moment we are on nicotine replacement therapy (wossat?). I think we should use all the resources at our disposal - friends - phone-lines - webby stuff!

I've never smoked (had aversion therapy as a kid) but I have enough other vices (which is why I'm a Type 2 diabetic and on medication for life) and good look and intestinal fortitude to both of you.

various vices^^
Oh gosh - sympathies about the Type 2 diabetes - I've got metabolic syndrome, which makes one high risk for Type 2 - and apple-shaped (I feel I should insert a drawing at this point).

Intestinal fortitude is definitely required! :)
